As we enter our ninth year, you’ll be seeing a tiny change in all our communications: STNI.
When we began in 2016, we chose the name Sea-Tac Noise.Info for a couple of reasons we thought were very clever at the time.
First, we wanted to distinguish ourselves from so many valuable groups across the nation, all who seemed to choose very similar names, including like Quiet Skies Puget Sound, Quiet Skies Coalition, Quiet Skies Caucus, Quiet Communities. We get it. People want and deserve quiet.
But from the beginning our main interest was something else: information. We did not set out to be advocates. Our main concern was watching all those advocates, people concerned about all the noise (and pollution and all the other negative impacts) keep failing to find solutions year after year. Being ‘nerds’ of various sorts, we chose the term “noise” to mean a lot more than the roar of airplanes. For us, “noise” means irrelevant data, misinformation, static. It’s the opposite of information. It’s all the things what you want to filter out from the clear signal.
What we did not take into account is what a mouthful “Sea-Tac Noise.Info” can be. Doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue. Over time, we found ourselves saying S-T-N-I, both to each other and to everyone else.
So, starting now, you’ll see STNI appear more and more in our communications alongside Sea-Tac Noise.Info.
Happy New Year!
