Seattle Daily Times 1973-04-15 pg25 Evergreen County

Notes:

Evergreen County was the brainchild of 30th State Representative (R) Paul Barden. The boundaries would have (mostly) followed what was then King County District 7 (which he ran for against King Lysen and won that November) It would have included Federal Way, Tukwila, what is now SeaTac, Burien, Des Moines and Normandy Park and White Center. It was a brilliant idea. It would have addressed the “feeling left out” pains from Federal Way and White Center, while placing controls and revenue sharing on the airport. Unfortunately, it was torpedoed mainly by residents in older communities like Normandy Park not directly impacted by the airport who feared it was simply raise their taxes and provide poorer services.
