In January 2010, the Port of Seattle sought approval to advertise construction bids for environmental cleanup work tied to the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport Third Runway project, including removing the 160th Street box culvert, restoring Miller Creek, and converting temporary stormwater ponds into permanent detention facilities. The estimated $6.6 million project was already funded within the previously approved Third Runway budget through Passenger Facility Charges and bond proceeds, requiring no new funding authorization. The work was required to fulfill federal and state permit conditions before the overall Third Runway project could be formally closed out.

The Miller and Walker Creeks Basin Plan Appendices, published in February 2006, is a regional watershed management document developed collaboratively by King County, the City of Burien, the City of SeaTac, the City of Normandy Park, the Port of Seattle, and the Washington State Department of Transportation. The plan addresses stormwater, habitat, and water quality issues within the Miller and Walker Creek drainage basins located near the Sea-Tac Airport area. It provides technical appendices to support basin-wide strategies for managing creek health and flood-related impacts in this urbanized watershed.
