Future (2018) NEM/NCP Noise Exposure Map: Seattle-Tacoma International Airport 14 CFR Part 150 Study Update
This map, prepared by Landrum & Brown for the Port of Seattle's 14 CFR Part 150 Study Update, shows projected aircraft noise exposure around Seattle-Tacoma International Airport for the year 2018. It illustrates three noise contour zones (DNL 65, 70, and 75 dBA), with the total area above DNL 65 dBA covering approximately 7.3 square miles and affecting an estimated 3,771 housing units and 9,712 residents. The map also identifies noise-sensitive land uses such as schools, churches, hospitals, and libraries within the affected area, and was certified by the Port of Seattle's Director of Aviation Planning and Environmental Programs. -

Auburn Mitigation Site: Forested & Emergent Wetlands — Restoration Walks 2013
The Auburn Mitigation Site is an 80-acre wetland restoration project in the Green River floodplain, created by the Port of Seattle to offset natural resource impacts from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport's third runway construction. The site features forested, scrub-shrub, and emergent wetlands that provide 40 acre-feet of floodplain storage, while keeping waterfowl habitat away from the airport to reduce bird-strike hazards to aircraft. As of 2013, the Port was in Year 6 of a 15-year monitoring program, with most communities successfully maturing and meeting performance standards after targeted removal of invasive species such as reed canary grass and cattail. -

Highline Forum Agenda and Draft Minutes: July 25, 2012 and May 23, 2012
The Highline Forum, a regional body representing cities near Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, met in May 2012 to discuss Sea-Tac's noise abatement procedures, including how the airport manages north and south flow air traffic patterns and monitors airline compliance rates. Port of Seattle staff acknowledged that the airport has limited formal enforcement tools for noise compliance, relying instead on collaboration with the FAA to identify and address patterns of non-compliance. A follow-up meeting was scheduled for July 25, 2012, at Burien City Hall to continue discussions on community and port issues. -

Highline School District No. 401 Capital Projects Update: Newly Constructed Facilities
Highline School District No. 401 used multiple funding sources — including voter-approved bonds from 2002 and 2006, State Construction Assistance Funds, Port of Seattle/FAA funds, and State Department of Commerce funds — to build 13 new replacement elementary schools and one new replacement high school. The Port of Seattle and FAA funding connection reflects the district's location near Sea-Tac Airport, where aircraft noise mitigation has historically supported school construction projects. The new elementary schools feature 66,500 square feet, 26 classrooms, earthquake reinforcement, air-conditioning, and other modern amenities suited to the noise-impacted communities they serve.
