Consumer Confidence Report on Water Quality 2022

The Highline Water District's 2022 Consumer Confidence Report details the sources, treatment, and quality testing of drinking water served to customers in the Kent and SeaTac, Washington area. Approximately 75% of the district's water comes from Seattle Public Utilities' Cedar River Watershed, with the remaining 25% drawn from local groundwater wells, all of which are treated and tested for over 200 contaminants before reaching customers. The report confirms that Highline Water District's water meets all state and federal safety standards and is significantly below EPA maximum contaminant levels.

Model-extrapolated estimates of airborne lead concentrations at U.S. airports

This EPA technical report estimates airborne lead concentrations near U.S. airports caused by piston-engine aircraft burning leaded aviation gasoline (avgas). Using air quality modeling and extrapolation methods, the study identifies airports where lead levels may exceed national air quality standards, particularly in areas close to aircraft run-up zones. While not specific to Sea-Tac Airport, the findings are relevant to understanding aviation-related air quality impacts at airports nationwide.

Burien Airport Committee agenda and draft minutes, November 18, 2019

The Burien Airport Committee met on October 15, 2019 to discuss whether to rejoin the Sea-Tac Stakeholder Advisory Round Table (StART), with survey results showing mixed opinions among members. The committee also reviewed environmental review requirements under NEPA and SEPA related to the Sustainable Airport Master Plan, and discussed legislative priorities prepared by a joint subgroup with Des Moines. A follow-up meeting was scheduled for November 18, 2019 to continue discussions on StART participation, a potential EPA meeting, and the future of the Joint Airport Committee.

Research, policies, and program options for improving indoor environmental quality

This EPA report, prepared by David Mudarri PhD in 2018, reviews the state of science on indoor environmental quality and outlines research, policy, and program options for improving it. The synthesis paper was developed to help the EPA establish research goals, objectives, and priorities across a wide range of indoor environmental topics and time frames. It is intended solely for internal EPA use due to the inclusion of copyrighted material from broad-based review articles.

Notice of Near-port Community Capacity Building Pilot Project Extension

In January 2018, EPA project lead Sabrina Johnson notified partners that the Near-port Community Capacity Building Pilot Project deadline was extended from June to September 30, 2018. The extension was granted to better address project partners' concerns and support more durable outcomes, while still encouraging participants to maintain an expeditious pace. Capacity building under this EPA initiative focuses on improving conditions and removing barriers to effective community functioning near port areas.

Issues

Sea-Tac Airport is currently undergoing the largest and longest expansion in its history, collectively known as the Sustainable Airport Master Plan (SAMP). Some of it you can already hear, but you’re probably not aware of what it all means. Here’s what you need to know.

As the source for federal transportation grants, the Puget Sound Regional Council was charged with developing a system to meet the growing need for commercial aviation. When the search for a second airport failed, they authorized the Port of Seattle to build the Third Runway, with a mandate to develop a noise abatement and mitigation program. In their effort to stop the Third Runway, the ACC argued over every detail of the Port's efforts--including property buyouts and sound insulation. The dispute was meant to be settled by a three member Expert Arbitration Panel. This is their final report. It finds 2-1, that the Port's program was insufficient in several respects. Despite that, funding for the Third Runway was approved by the PSRC, and the 'Port Package' program, proceeded largely unchanged. Expert Arbitration Panel's final decision finding that the Port of Seattle had not shown sufficient reduction in real on-the-ground noise impacts to satisfy noise reduction conditions required for approval of a third runway at Sea-Tac International Airport. The majority decision concluded the Port's noise abatement programs were insufficient despite being impressive in scope.
