Letter dated October 25, 2000 from Bob Sheckler, Chair of the Airport Communities Coalition (ACC), to Washington State Department of Ecology Director Tom Fitzsimmons, protesting the removal of Senior Environmental Specialist Tom Luster from the Port Of Seattle third runway 401 certification permit process. The letter alleges political interference including a May 16 meeting with Governor Gary Locke, Chief of Staff Joe Dear, and Port Executive Director Mic Dinsmore; a September 27 secret meeting at Port offices involving Joe Dear, Ray Hellwig (DOE Northwest Regional Office Director), and Fitzsimmons; publication of ghostwritten opinion columns by former Seattle Mayor Norm Rice and Bellevue developer Bob Wallace authored by a Port-retained PR firm; and fabricated public letters to regulatory agencies. The ACC demands Luster’s reinstatement and copies the letter to Governor Locke, Congressman Adam Smith, Senators Julia Patterson and Tracy Eide, and multiple state representatives.
