This study investigates how the growth patterns of roadside coniferous vegetation barriers affect traffic-related air pollution mitigation. Using 75 CFD simulations with varying vegetation heights (2-10 m) and leaf area index (LAI) values (4-11), the research finds that barriers at 4-6 m height provide optimal pollutant reduction by enhancing deposition, maintaining moderate wake regions, and generating turbulence that promotes dispersion. The authors recommend accounting for vegetation growth patterns when selecting and maintaining roadside barriers, with pruning recommended to maintain ideal barrier heights.
