In November 2012, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) and Record of Decision (ROD) approving new satellite-based navigation procedures at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (Sea-Tac) under the 'Greener Skies over Seattle' initiative. The new procedures, developed with Alaska Airlines, Boeing, and the Port of Seattle, use advanced RNAV/RNP technology to guide arriving aircraft along more precise, optimized descent paths, reducing fuel burn and environmental impact. The FAA determined that these airspace changes would not result in significant environmental harm or any physical airport development.

FAA Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) and Record of Decision (ROD) dated November 2012 for the Greener Skies over Seattle initiative, approving implementation of Performance-Based Navigation (PBN) procedures including Area Navigation (RNAV), Required Navigation Performance (RNP), and Optimized Profile Descent (OPD) at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA). The document approves new flight procedures for aircraft arriving from the northwest and southwest, covering Seattle TRACON and ARTCC airspace. Developed in cooperation with Alaska Air Group (Alaska Airlines, Horizon Air), The Boeing Company, and Port of Seattle. Based on Final Environmental Assessment (EA) dated October 2012. Complies with NEPA [42 U.S.C. Section 4321], CEQ regulations [40 CFR Parts 1500-1508], FAA Order 1050.1E, and FAA Order JO 7400.2J. Part of FAA NextGen modernization program for the National Airspace System (NAS).
