A draft letter from the June 25, 2026 Des Moines City Council meeting agenda responding to this editorial in the Seattle times from Mayors Dana Ralph (Kent) and Angela Birney (Redmond) in support of airport expansion.
The three Cities of Burien, Des Moines, and SeaTac jointly write to Port of Seattle Commissioners to challenge the assertion that SAMP Near-Term Projects will have no significant impact on surrounding communities. The letter calls for full environmental review of disproportionate impacts on airport-adjacent and historically disadvantaged communities. It specifically demands that the SEPA Draft Environmental Impact Statement comment period be extended from 60 days to at least 120 days.
