Draft Environmental Assessment for Taxiway B project now available

King County International Airport-Boeing Field (KCIA) is hosting two opportunities for public engagement, one virtual and one in person, on Wednesday, October 14 for agencies, airport tenants, community members and interested parties to provide input on the Draft Environmental Assessment (EA) for the Runway 14R/32L Rehabilitation and Taxiway B Relocation (Proposed Action). The same material will be presented at both engagement opportunities.

The airport has prepared a Draft Environmental Assessment (Draft EA) for the Runway 14R/32L rehabilitation and Taxiway Bravo relocation work. KCIA is working with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to ensure compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). The Draft EA is available on the airport’s website.

The two engagement opportunities kick-off the 30-day public review and comment period. The virtual open house will be held on Zoom from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on October 14. Register for the Zoom meeting at kingcounty.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_PTbHxeVUSWm3e7f668SWQw

The in-person open house will take place on October 14 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the KCIA Flight Service Station, 6526 Ellis Ave. S., Seattle. Registration is not required for the in-person event.

The airport will accept comments on the Draft EA until 5 p.m. Pacific Time on November 13.

KCIA last rehabilitated Runway 14R/32L in 2006, and the pavement is reaching the end of its useful life. In addition, Taxiway B is too close to Runway 14R/32L under current FAA standards. To meet current standards, KCIA must relocate the taxiway an additional 50 to 75 feet west of Runway 14R/32L.

Read the Draft EA and learn more at kingcounty.gov/airport/taxiway-b-nepa.

Full-scale emergency exercise set for October 21

ARFF training 2026
It’s just a drill!

A full-scale emergency exercise is planned at the airport on Wednesday, October 21 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., with event cleanup until about 2 p.m. The exercise will take place along Taxiway Bravo, which will be closed from the southwest parking area to B10. The runway will remain open.

Airport tenants, employees, users and community members may see what looks like an aircraft accident, including real smoke (but no fire), aircraft parts, and “victims” (with makeup to simulate mock injuries) on the airfield. Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) and other first responders will engage in the exercise as if it were a real emergency.
