Notes
Community meeting summary notes from Meeting #2 of the ‘Your 2¢ Worth’ series on urban streams, gathering public input from neighborhood groups including Valley View, Riverton Heights, Des Moines, North Hill, Shorewood, Air Transportation and Urban Development Committee, and Highline Community College. Three questions addressed: (1) effects of traditional storm drainage solutions (culverts, concrete waterways) on the water balance, streams, lakes, wells, and vegetation; (2) values and nuisances of urban streams for an urban community — aesthetic, recreational, economic, health, and safety considerations; (3) public accessibility of urban streams and waterways. Respondents cited concerns about Puget Sound, Des Moines Creek, salmon, mosquitos, flooding, erosion, water table levels, and loss of wildlife habitat. Highline area park deficiencies and fish breeding potential noted by Shorewood group.
