StART October 24, 2018 Meeting Recap

The October 24, 2018 StART meeting brought together the Port of Seattle, neighboring communities, airlines, and the FAA to discuss progress on reducing aviation noise around Sea-Tac Airport. Key topics included a possible voluntary nighttime flight curfew between midnight and 5 a.m., updates to the FAA Reauthorization Bill, and presentations from Boeing, Alaska Airlines, and Delta Airlines on new quieter aircraft and fuel-efficient fleet upgrades. The next public meeting was scheduled for December 19, 2018 at SeaTac City Hall.

Recap of the Sea-Tac Stakeholder Advisory Round Table (StART) meeting held October 24, 2018, convened by Sea-Tac Airport Managing Director Lance Lyttle. Topics include the Aviation Noise Working Group’s progress on nighttime flight operations (12:00 am–5:00 am voluntary curfew), runway use letters of agreement between the Port Of Seattle and FAA, FAA Reauthorization Bill update by Clare Gallagher and Joelle Briggs, and the Sustainable Airport Master Plan scoping period. Boeing’s Dr. Robert Stoker presented on forthcoming fleet changes and noise/emissions reductions. Alaska Airlines (Scott Kennedy) and Delta Airlines (Tony Gonchar) discussed operational improvements and future fleet purchases. Community members SeaTac, Burien, Des Moines, Normandy Park, Tukwila, and Federal Way are represented. Questions addressed noise abatement, engine noise, thrust reversers, A-320 noise retrofitting, and phase-out of older aircraft.
