Notes
Highline Times newspaper article by Carolyn Logan reporting on Port Of Seattle’s new $200,000 aircraft noise monitoring system at Sea-Tac Airport, installed June 1979. Nine remote field monitors collect noise data via telephone lines to a mini-computer on the fourth floor of the airport parking garage. Monitor sites include Parkside Elementary School, Midway Elementary School, Glendale Junior High School, Glacier High School, and Tyee Golf Course. Noise consultants Towne, Richards and Chaudiere, Inc. (Seattle) recommended sites patterned after the California noise code. Senior engineer Richard Ottele (Federal Way) oversees the project; Oris Dunham Jr. is Port deputy director of aviation. Equipment supplied by E, G and G, San Diego. System measures noise in dba (decibels ‘A’ weighted) and will support noise-remedy programs for property owners.
