Motion of the Port Of Seattle Commission Directing Creation of a Sea-Tac Airport Community Ecology Fund

Notes

Port of Seattle Commission motion adopted November 22, 2016, directing creation of the Airport Community Ecology Fund with $1 million allocated to support environmental and ecological projects in SeaTac, Burien, and Des Moines communities affected by Sea-Tac Airport operations. The fund was established in response to public concerns about the Flight Corridor Safety Program (FCSP), which removes and replaces trees and other obstructions to navigable airspace per FAA regulations. Planned activities include support of Des Moines Memorial Way tree replacement program, tree planting in communities, environmental education programs in local schools, and joint efforts with local non-profit organizations. Port staff directed to return to Commission no later than Q1 2017 with goals, eligibility criteria, and proposal selection criteria.
