January 27, 1977 -Memo- Blaine Larsen to Dave Zeigler "Sumnary of Locations With Asbestos Ceilings" 8. Sunset Jr. High A. All Classroom Areas B. Shop Building--all areas (Note: The title would more accurately read "Surrmary of Locations With Friable ) Ceilings" because the district had not begun to sarrple or test for asbestos content. January 5, 1979 - Memo - Blaine Larsen This memo indicates that all sites with friable materials are being tested except Mt. Rainier and Sunset. August 8, 1979 - Seattle Times article quoting Bob Sealey to the effect that Sunset will be checked. The record indicates an early identification that there was friable material on the ceiling at Sunset. It is also apparent that no samples were taken or tested for asbestos content. The following chronology for the closure and disposition of Sunset may explain the circumstances. June 1973 July 1975 Fall 1976 January 1977 December 1977 January 1979 District files airport noise impact suit against Port of Seattle. - Sunset closed as a school. - Voluntary asbestos inspections begun. - Memo listing locations with friable material (Sunset included) - Settlement of noise suit. As a condition of the settlement the Port off Seattle acquired the Sunset site. Title was transferred upon receipt…
