Airport Communities Coalition (ACC) fact sheet opposing the Sea-Tac Airport third runway, covering environmental, cost, school, and construction impacts. Environmental section documents Sea-Tac generating 8% of King County carbon monoxide and 5% of nitrogen oxide emissions, Washington State Department of Ecology violations by Port Of Seattle including sludge and solvent discharge, destruction of Miller Creek watershed wetlands, ethylene glycol and jet fuel stormwater runoff into Des Moines Creek and Puget Sound, and a 25% increase in vehicle emissions. Noise section reports citizens exposed to 10–25 decibels above EPA recommendations, night operations generating 30-decibel sleep disruptions, and over half of measured takeoffs exceeding federal harm thresholds. Costs section states the runway would be the most expensive in the U.S. at $500 million ($71,000/foot), requiring purchase of 110 acres, demolition of 230 homes, and import of 14 million cubic yards of landfill. Schools section identifies over 6,000 children in Highline School District exposed to aircraft noise above 85 decibels inside classrooms, with reading levels one full grade-year below peers. Construction section projects 1,000–1,500 truckloads per day for four years on roads already rated F+ by state traffic engineers.
