Stay Grounded Event: Night trains, not night planes!

Ntnnp social media3

Article Summary:

For the past two years, more than 220 initiatives from 15 countries have declared September 13th as the International day for the ban of night flights at airports. In parallel, activists across Europe have been gathering for pyjama parties for night trains – coordinated in 2024 and 2025 by Back on Track and Stay Grounded.

This year, we are bringing these two action days together because we need Night trains, not night planes! While we protest AGAINST harmful night flights at airports, we want to promote one of the best already existing alternatives to air traffic in general, by showing support FOR night trains.

Our message is simple: we need to draw non-negotiable red lines. Ban night flights and shift short and medium distance mobility toward slower, connected, affordable rail – so communities can sleep, health is protected, and air traffic emissions are cut now.

Discussion

STNI has been working with Stay-Grounded for many years. We fully support their efforts to provide sensible limits on unnecessary air travel. Night flights during the 'DNL Penalty' of 10pm and 7am are injurious to human health and should be banned everywhere.
