Notes
Community meeting responses compiled from neighborhood groups including Valley View, Marvista, Riverton Heights, Des Moines, North Hill, Shorewood, Normandy Park United Church of Christ, Air Transportation & Urban Development Meeting, and Highline Community College. Meeting #1 titled ‘Silence Is Golden’ asked residents to identify the noisiest things in their neighborhoods and assess the importance of Sea-Tac Airport to the community. Respondents identified Sea-Tac aircraft, motorcycles, freeways, trucks, and home appliances as top noise sources. Airport importance discussed across economic, aesthetic, and cultural dimensions; suggestions included green belt buffer zones, noise abatement baffles, fair market value assurance for Zone 3 homeowners, landscaping, viewing areas, quieter engines, and a public ‘trouble number’ for port operations complaints. DC-10 cited as noise standard reference.
