A presentation by Neelakshi Hudda of Tufts University at the Aviation Noise & Emissions Symposium 2023 examining the health impacts of airport-related pollution on nearby communities, using LAX as a case study. The presentation highlights that approximately 34 million people live within 3 miles of US airports and that near-airport communities experience higher rates of adverse health conditions including hypertension, cardiovascular disease, adverse learning outcomes in children, pre-term birth, and brain cancer. The research also addresses ultrafine particulate pollution specifically.
