StART August 28, 2019 Meeting Recap

The Sea-Tac Stakeholder Advisory Round Table (StART) met on August 28, 2019 to discuss airport noise reduction efforts, federal policy priorities, and an overview of Part 150 noise studies. Key updates included progress on a Revised Runway Use Agreement, the launch of a Late Night Noise Limitation Program, and a new noise complaint system. The meeting also addressed the temporary suspension of three neighboring cities from StART, with airport leadership pledging improved communication and good-faith efforts to re-engage those communities.

Recap of the Sea-Tac Stakeholder Advisory Round Table (StART) meeting held August 28, 2019, convened by Sea-Tac Airport Managing Director Lance Lyttle. Covers the Aviation Noise Working Group’s August 12 meeting update (Revised Runway Use Agreement awaiting FAA approval, Late Night Noise Limitation Program, Noise Abatement Departure Procedure Profiles analysis, Airfield Noise Assessment contracting, new noise complaint system), the Federal Policy Working Group Work Plan (FAA Reauthorization Act, Congressional legislation, WHO Europe Study, GAO Metroplex study, high-speed rail, new federal legislation), and a panel discussion on Part 150 Studies featuring Mary Ellen Eagan of Harris Miller Miller & Hanson (HMMH) and Stan Shepherd on the Port’s sound insulation program. Also addresses the temporary suspension of Burien, Des Moines, and Federal Way from StART and the Port’s pledge to improve Commission meeting notifications. Member communities include SeaTac, Normandy Park, Tukwila, Federal Way, Alaska Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and Lynden Transport.
