Regional Aviation Baseline Study

The Puget Sound Regional Council's May 2021 Regional Aviation Baseline Study examines the roles and interactions of airports across the central Puget Sound region, including Sea-Tac, Paine Field, Renton, and dozens of smaller facilities spanning King, Pierce, Snohomish, and Kitsap counties. The study aims to identify future aviation needs, gather stakeholder input on airspace constraints, and provide a regional perspective on how airports affect communities and the broader economy. Notably, PSRC clarifies that the study does not make recommendations on expanding existing airports or siting new ones.

Notes

Puget Sound Regional Council (PSRC) Regional Aviation Baseline Study, May 2021 overview presentation. Covers the roles and interactions of airports across King County, Snohomish County, Kitsap County, and Pierce County in the central Puget Sound region, including Sea-Tac Airport (large hub), Paine Field (national), Renton (national), Bremerton (regional), Auburn (regional), Tacoma Narrows (local/basic), and numerous seaplane bases (Kenmore Air Harbor SPB S60 and W55, Seattle Seaplanes SPB, Will Rogers SPB, Port of Poulsbo SPB, American Lake SPB) and non-NPIAS and military airports (McChord Field, Gray Army Airfield). Study objectives include identifying aviation roles per NPIAS classification, providing a regional perspective on airport interactions with communities and the broader economy, obtaining stakeholder input on aviation and airspace constraints, and identifying future aviation needs. PSRC explicitly states it is not making recommendations on expansion of current airports or siting of new facilities.
