In February 2020, the Port of Seattle presented progress on developing policies governing the use of public-facing biometric technology at Port facilities, including Sea-Tac Airport. The effort was guided by seven core principles — Justified, Voluntary, Private, Equitable, Transparent, Lawful, and Ethical — established in a December 2019 Commission motion. A cross-departmental working group was tasked with turning those principles into enforceable policy recommendations, with a moratorium on any new biometric deployments until the Commission formally adopted the policies.Open full document
