Therma-Stor Fresh 80 Air Filters

Article Summary:

If you have a Port Package, you likely have these air filters in two spots in your house. Many people have no idea what they do, but they are important to the health of you and your Port Package and your house so you should learn how they work.

First of all, you should change the filters at least every six months. They’re prox. $5. They aren’t any super-special material–they’re mainly for filtering out big things. And they do break down over time. You replace them by pulling them front cover directly straight off. Don’t twist. Just pull straight ahead.

And you do want to keep the air flowing. Remember that sound travels through the air. Sound insulation literally means preventing the outside air (which carries the noise) from getting inside your home.

When you tighten up your home to reduce the noise, you are also reducing the circulation of fresh air, which can lead to poorer indoor air quality, including condensation and mold. Keeping those vents clean, will improve the air circulation, which is beneficial for maintaining your Port Package—and you.

The devices were originally designed with a little pull string to open and close via a wheel vent inside the cover. These usually break over time. If the string is missing or inoperable, just remove the wheel to allow airflow all the time. In fact, we recommend it rather than having to remember to open/close the vent.

You may be able to find this information in your Port Package Homeowner Handbook. If not, you should read our copy in order to better understand how a Port Package contributes to your indoor air quality and affects your house.
