What’s Happening in DC a. The outlook for FY24 appropriations is significantly impacted by House Republicans veering from the debt ceiling compromise, which does not bode well for successful passage of timely federal funding; a government shutdown is increasingly likely on October 1. The House is marking up their version at $130 billion less than the Senate, which will be difficult to reconcile. Part of the debt ceiling agreement was that all appropriations bills must pass by December 31, or all departments would receive a 1% cut across the board – including defense. FY23 federal funding runs out on October 1, but a continuing resolution could buy time for a compromise until the end of the year. b. What happens next: Currently bills are being marked up in the House and Senate Congratulations to SeaTac and Burien – they both have “earmark” requests currently included. 2.
