City of Burien – Mathison Park Trees Update

Mathison Park Trees Update: The Burien City Council unanimously approved sending the Port of Seattle Commission a request that they hold a special meeting to discuss the proposed removal of trees under the Port’s Flight Corridor Management Program, including six mature trees in Burien’s Mathison Park.
The letter sent to the Port Commission also requests immediate action on developing an Environmental Impact Statement to determine potential impacts caused by the planned removal of more than 200 trees surrounding the airport.

The City of Burien continues to advocate for community members and our environment impacted by airport operations. In October, the City issued a letter to the Port Commission offering a new path forward to correct failed Port-installed noise insulation packages for Burien homes.
