Port of Seattle Resolution 3483 Highline Schools construction sound insulation 20020122

A RESOLUTION of the Port Commission of the Port of Seattle expressing the Port of Seattle Commission's support for the Highline School District's Capital Facilities Improvement ballot measure. WHEREAS, as a community we have an obligation to provide for the education of our young people; and WHEREAS, effective learning requires facilities that are modem, safe and offer up-to- date technology; and WHEREAS, 26 of 3 1 of the Highline School District's schools were built in the 1950s or before; and WHEREAS, the learning environment for teachers and students in several Highline School District's schools is affected by noise from Seattle-Tacoma Airport aircraft operations; and WHEREAS, the Port of Seattle, the Highline School District, the Federal Aviation Administration and Washington State have formed a partnership to provide $200 million over 10 years for noise insulation improvements at the 15 schools most affected by aircraft noise; and WHEREAS, the implementation of this agreement is contingent on approval by Highline School District voters of the district's proposed $1 89.5 million Capital Facilities Improvement Bond; and WHEREAS, this bond issue will, if approved, also fund many additional improvements throughout the district to provide teachers and students with safe and modem facilities and technology they need to succeed;
