Article Summary:
This is what real reform looks like. It is part of the Burien Airport Committee’s next agenda. We urge everyone to attend on Tuesday, December 18 at 6:00pm at Burien City Hall, Multipurpose Room on 1st Floor, 400 SW 152nd St, Burien, WA 98166.
WE STRONGLY URGE EVERYONE TO STUDY THIS DOCUMENT as well as Title 53 of the State Of Washington RCW and contact us with specific questions. This is the heart of the Port’s power over all our communities.
The real question is this: How does one achieve this type of reform? Only with full-time lobbying at the State level and with a concerted effort which brings together a coalition of lawmakers. As we have stated all along, the airport communities are not simply fighting the Port. There are powerful forces at every level of business and government who have no interest in seeing us obtain any relief. Without a singular effort at the State level we cannot succeed.
We do not yet see any sort of strategy to make this happen. We believe that this effort must be led by Des Moines, which has a unique combination of greatest impacts and greatest natural features, but also the best current financial resources.
