Airport Community Ecology Symposium (ACES

Article Summary:

Dear Airport Community Friends,

Please Save the Date for the first ever Airport Community Ecology Symposium (ACES) to be held:

Saturday, February 1, 2020
9 a.m.–1:00 p.m.
Highline College

This half-day, conference-style event will feature the work of community groups showcasing environmental projects in South King County. Breakfast and lunch will be included. There is no cost to attend, however space is limited.

We hope to create a safe sharing and learning space where there will be opportunities to talk with peers about their successes and challenges. Whether you have completed an ACE Grant project, or you are thinking of applying for funds and want to learn more, there will be something for you!

Submit a Proposal for Your Symposium Presentation

We currently are accepting proposals for presentations, and we want to hear from you! Some potential panel topics include:

  • Culturally-relevant environmental engagement
  • Urban forest restoration
  • Healthy food access/ community gardens
  • Youth programs
  • Environmental justice and equity

If you have an idea for a panel or presentation, please let us know. We will be firming up the schedule over the next few weeks.

If this is your first time participating in an activity like this, don’t worry! We’re going to make it easy. Panels will consist of 3-5 presentations which can be 5-15 minutes long and include a few PowerPoint slides. This is your chance to highlight your project and share your great work with your friends and neighbors.

Finally, we will set aside time for peer-to-peer learning and networking over lunch. If you are interested in tackling a community environmental project for the first time, this is your chance to ask questions of past ACE Grant recipients and other community leaders.

If you are interested in hosting a table with organizational outreach materials and volunteer or funding opportunities, please let me know.

Please email ecologyfund@portseattle.org with questions and/or to volunteer to present. Please share this request widely with friends, neighbors, and colleagues – we want to be as inclusive as possible.

We look forward to seeing you at this event!
